A one-night experience close to the glaciers is possible: Capanna Aosta Refuge is situated in one of the most spectacular areas of Valpelline, on a cliff on the east side of the terminal tongue of the Tza de Tzan glacier. It is owned by C.A.I. in Aosta, but it is managed by La Barma des Fleurs de Glace Cooperative Society. The refuge is located on a deck at the foot of Grandes Murailles glacier, it has 24 beds in dormitories and 14 more in a winter room. The most beautiful trips and climbs possible in Valpelline start from this picturesque and particular hut, like Dent d’Hérens or Mont Brulé. It is also possible to access the hut only to round off a trekking day in style. However, we suggest taking this way leading to this hut only if your training level is medium-high, as several passages are made up of iron steps, placed to overcome the smoothness of the stones.
