THE RESERVE
The Montagnayes gorge, in the commune of Bionaz, stretches from 1573 m at the bottom of the valley to 3321 m at Becca-des-Arbyères. Situated on the left-hand side of the Buthier stream, the valley offers visitors typical sub-Alpine and Alpine landscapes, with mixed forests of spruce and larch, which gradually open up towards the crests to make way for Alpine pastures and meadows, with rare species of flora in the whole of the Alps and the region.
Chamois, foxes, badgers, martens, beech martens, golden eagles, dwarf owls, choughs, amphibians, reptiles and a world of diurnal butterflies populate this rich and still unspoilt natural environment.
DISCOVER THE AREA
An area for all seasons: in summer the warm sun will accompany you on your walks among flowers and plants whose scents fill the air; in autumn the warm colours of the conifers will cradle you and guide your steps, immersed in the wonder of the local foliage. In winter the area is inaccessible: for safety's sake, which Valpelline All Season always puts first, we recommend that you avoid the area due to the risk of avalanches caused by the abundant snow cover.
BEHAVIOUR
TO FOLLOW
The main objective of Valpelline All Season is to safeguard the surrounding environment and all that is nature. The wonder of an uncontaminated place also passes through individual responsibility. Remember that you can help preserve these places by following a few simple steps:
- visit the nature reserve on foot, on skis or with snowshoes;
- do not use motorised vehicles on the trails and in the nature reserve;
- for mountain-bikes and saddle animals, check if authorised routes are available, outside the area, taking care to respect walkers;
- stay on the marked paths, trampling ruins the fragile turf and the substrate of the forest; in winter, follow the recommended routes so as not to disturb the animals struggling with frost and hunger;
- observe wild animals from a distance, do not catch them, do not disturb them, do not give them food and do not photograph occupied nests;
- keep your dog on a leash and always on marked trails;
- do not collect minerals and flowers;
- do not light fires;
- take your rubbish downstream, where there is a collection service;
- camping is only allowed for overnight bivouacking above 2,500 metres, taking care not to wash your dishes in spring waters and still waters;
- campervans and caravans can stay outside the area, in authorised areas, if available.
